 Questions for Kerry-Fleur Schleifer

Crow

What types of subject matter do you find most resonant with your creative ideas?

•Birds -spiritually and other worldly.

•Revealing spirit and flesh in seamless existence.

•Aboriginal tribes and their use of body art.

•The idea of weaving and layering. Transparency within the layers of depth.

•Spirit inside of human and nature's flesh.

Skin

Which is more important to you, the subject of your painting, or the way it is executed?

Execution over subject. I want to give the observer/viewer an experience into my art. A feeling rather than thought. I want to touch rather than tell.

But the subject matter needs to stir something inside me in order for me to be able to create anything.

Fruit Bowl

What projects are you working towards at the moment?

•A series on Crows and maybe other birds

•Self portrait series

•Transparent depth

•Realism verses cartoon

•Maths and Art interlaced.

Are there any artists who particularly inspire you?

Vlaminck, Roualt, Redon, Rembrant, Munk, Sol LeWitt, Tony Orrico, Carla Farsi and many more.

Highschool Teacher

What do you feel makes your work unique and truly your own?

My visual language for how I feel energy (not matter), using line and colour.

Capturing the core essence of a subject.

Untitled

As an artist, what’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Only draw what I see rather what what I think I see.

Is there an artwork here on the Artspan site you are most proud of? Why?

Antique

 'Antique'

I feel I have mastered the opposite worlds I wish to embody in my art and life; The free expression of the objects on the desk and the specialized detail in the table's wood work.
